No. Emerging artists are especially welcome. You don’t need published work, a large following, or a polished portfolio. Illustrations, sketchbook drawings, and personal projects can help us get to know your work. We’re interested in your imagination, willingness to collaborate, and interest in visual storytelling.
-
We welcome a wide range of styles and approaches. Our stories often explore surreal, spooky, or unusual subjects, but your artwork doesn’t have to look like a traditional horror comic. Playful, delicate, expressive, realistic, or unexpected interpretations are welcome.
Tell us what you enjoy drawing—we want to work with your strengths.
-
No. Start by sharing your artwork and telling us about the subjects, characters, and moods you enjoy. Ryan Martin, Full Bleed Press’s writer and producer, will review your inquiry and may suggest a script that fits your interests.
-
Yes. Our scripts are starting points for collaboration. Characters, settings, and visual approaches can develop around your strengths.
For example, if you primarily draw dogs, a story originally written about trolls might become a story about dog characters. We discuss significant changes together before production.
-
No. Send work you’ve already made. There’s no need to draw an unpaid audition page or create new artwork just to introduce yourself.
-
This is a profit-sharing collaboration, with no guaranteed upfront page fee or minimum income unless separately agreed in writing.
Our standard proposal divides net profit equally: 50% to the artist and 50% to Full Bleed Press. Sales and profits are not guaranteed.
-
Net profit is the money received from a comic’s sales after refunds, transaction fees, and agreed direct project expenses. Sales tax is excluded.
Our own creative work—such as writing, drawing, editing, and any agreed lettering or coloring—is compensated through our shares. It isn’t deducted again as an extra production fee.
Expenses and payment arrangements are agreed in writing before production. See How We Share Profits for examples.
-
Each proposed print edition has a funding goal based on its printing and fulfillment budget. Printing begins when that goal is reached, unless we agree on another funding arrangement.
Print revenue first covers approved costs. The remaining net profit is split 50/50. Each expense is recovered only once, and unrecovered costs do not automatically become a debt the artist owes.
-
Full Bleed Press handles script development, creative direction, editorial feedback, project coordination, publishing, and sales reporting. Depending on the project, we may also handle lettering, coloring, book design, print preparation, and fulfillment.
The artist develops thumbnails, page layouts, visual storytelling, and the agreed finished artwork, sharing progress at planned review stages.
We agree on responsibilities, deadlines, revision limits, and file requirements before work begins.
-
Yes. Artists retain copyright to their original artwork, and writers retain copyright to their original scripts.
Before production, our project agreement addresses publishing permission, credits, new characters, adaptations, and any jointly developed material. A 50/50 profit split does not automatically mean shared copyright ownership.
Submitting a portfolio does not give us permission to publish your work.
-
Traditional and digital drawing are both welcome. We do not accept AI-generated artwork, including generated images that have been traced or painted over.
Collaborators provide a manageable selection of process documentation, such as sketches, progress photographs, screenshots, or short drawing recordings. You don’t need to show your face or record every session. Public use of this material is agreed separately and credited.
-
It depends on the comic’s length, complexity, and everyone’s availability. We agree on a realistic schedule together before production, including time for layouts, feedback, finished artwork, and book preparation.
Be honest about the time you have available. Clear communication matters more than promising a fast turnaround.
-
Our producer reviews each inquiry personally. If there’s a potential fit, he’ll contact you to discuss your work and a possible script.
An inquiry or script exchange doesn’t commit either of us to a project. Before production begins, we sign a separate agreement covering the work, rights, expenses, and compensation.
-
Unpublished scripts are shared privately so you can consider a collaboration. Please don’t forward, post, publish, or use them for another project without written permission.
Read the Confidentiality Acknowledgment before requesting or receiving a script.
